Frequently asked questions

Are my conversations encrypted?

Yes. All data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and at rest in our databases. Your messages, insights, and personal information are protected with industry-standard encryption at every layer.

Can anyone at encouple read my conversations?

Access to user data is tightly controlled. Only a small number of authorized personnel can access production systems, and only when strictly necessary for platform operation or a support issue you've explicitly raised. We never read your conversations for any other purpose.

Is my data used to train AI models?

No. Your conversations are never used to train AI models — ours or any third party's. We work only with AI providers whose data usage policies prohibit training on customer inputs, and we never repurpose your data for model development.

What happens to my data if I delete my account?

Deletion is permanent and irreversible. All conversation history, insights, session records, and account information are removed from our databases. We retain only the minimum required for legal obligations (for example, payment records where required by law).

Is encouple HIPAA compliant?

Encouple is not a healthcare provider and is not formally HIPAA covered, but we follow HIPAA-informed data handling practices — including encryption, access controls, audit logging, and minimum-necessary access — because therapeutic conversations deserve that level of protection.

How are my passwords protected?

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt (12 rounds) before they're stored, so plaintext passwords never touch our database. Even in the event of a database breach, passwords cannot be recovered. You can also sign in via Google SSO if you'd rather not manage another password.
